Giving something new a try.
I’ve been debating this for awhile now. First, I kept asking myself if I had the time to commit to this? I teach. I coach. I parent. I freelance write. Where would I find the time to write on my own. Second, I keep asking myself what I have to say. Are there people out there who would actually value what I have to say about different things? And what is wrong with those people? Seriously, though, aren’t there enough Newsletters, Bloggs, and Podcasts out there? Lastly, is there a topic I should concentrate on? Baseball comes to mind, of course. but so does education. I love talking politics and history.
1. So why am I doing this?
Ultimately, I guess I’m vain enough to think I have something to say that people will value. It’s up to you to prove me wrong.
2. I’m looking for readers.
I’ve run blogs before. I loved it. Some succeeded. Some failed. I’m willing to give this a go. I’d like to have active readers. Who check in regularly and leave comments. Of course, we all want respectful readers, but I don’t mind some good snark and sarcasm. I’d hope my readers would be thoughtful and inquisitive.
3. What are we getting if we subscribe?
I have some goals for this newsletter, but I’m willing to let it morph in different directions. For now, I want to have some short posts that feature my read on a few topics. It’s not going to be daily. I’m not that disciplined. But I’m hoping for two or three times a week.
The topics I discuss in here will range from sports and education to politics, history and journalism.
One of my favorite things about teaching is sharing good writing and storytelling. I’d like to do that here. Point out excellent stories and books on a range of topics.
4. Do we have to pay?
Basically, no. For now, everything is free. However, if I get enough subscribers I might go to a very cheap subscription model. However, even if I do that, a lot of stuff will be free.
So I’m taking the leap.
5. When can we expect your first post?
I’ll get something out later today.
